Good Morning Everyone! I’m happy to announce that I’m going to be covering the Delain, Amorphis, and Anneke Van Giersbergen show tonight at the Palladium in Worcester MA! I’ve been a long time fan of Amorphis, and this is an honor to be able to cover them! I want to give special thanks to skullsnbones.com for this opportunity!
A little about the bands (thanks to wikipedia & band websites)
Delain is a Dutch symphonic metal band formed in 2002 by former Within Temptation keyboardist Martijn Westerholt, and Charlotte Wessels. The name of the band comes from the Kingdom of Delain in Stephen King’s novel, The Eyes of the Dragon.
I initially discovered them seeing them open for Sabaton and Nightwish at the Palladium in Worcester MA. I thoroughly enjoyed their live set, and immediately went out and got all of their albums I could find.
Amorphis is a Finnish heavy metal band founded by Jan Rechberger, Tomi Koivusaari, and Esa Holopainen in 1990. Initially, the band was a death metal act, but on later albums they evolved into playing other genres, including progressive metal, and folk metal. They frequently use the Kalevala, the epic poem of Finland, as a source for their lyrics.
I have long been a fan of Amorphis, ever since I heard the song Exile of the Sons of Ulisu back in 1994 or 1995. When I first heard that song, I was completely blown away, and immediately fell in love with them. If by now you haven’t heard them, you might be living under a rock. Over the last almost 2 decades, they have released some of the most phenomenal albums that have ever graced my ears.
Anna Maria van Giersbergen, known artistically as Anneke van Giersbergen, is a Dutch singer, songwriter, guitarist and pianist who became known worldwide as the lead singer and songwriter for the Dutch band The Gathering, between 1994 and 2007. She also has a solo career. The project was originally called Agua de Annique, but now goes by her own name.
Now, I’ve been a HUGE fan of Anneke since I first heard The Gathering. The song Strange Machines absolutely blew my mind the moment she started singing. She has one of those voices that’s unmistakable and always brings a smile to my face. She is DEFINITELY worth checking out, in ANY of her projects, if you haven’t already.
